Sarasota Concert Association Presents The
2016-2017 Music Matinees
Sarasota Concert Association’s popular free lunchtime concert series is back with a new name, added venues, and outstanding regional artists offering a variety of musical styles.
(Sarasota, Florida) Since 1938, the Sarasota Concert Association (SCA) has brought the world’s finest classical musicians to Sarasota with its “Great Performers Series.” The 2016-17 season is no exception, with another notable lineup of internationally renowned orchestras and soloists. In addition to the Great Performers Series, the organization also offers its free “Music Matinees,” a long-running, community outreach program (formerly called Munchtime Musicales) that features the talents of accomplished musicians with ties to the region and who present a vast array of musical styles, including classical, folk, jazz and pop. This season’s Music Matinees series expands its horizons with added concerts at two new venues in Venice and Lakewood Ranch. The series is coordinated by Sylvia Eckes, a SCA board member, who says that the series continues to thrive and grow as one of the area’s most popular musical programs.
“We are pleased to open this season with a new name, an expansion to two new venues, and with more of the high-caliber musical programs that have made this series such a success,” says Eckes. “It’s always rewarding to be able to support and offer various types of music programs performed by the outstanding musicians who live and work in our region, and to contribute to the cultural enrichment of our community.”
The 2016-17 Music Matinees noontime concert season features nationally acclaimed soprano Hein Jung, with Grigorios Zamparas, piano (November 9, 2016, with two additional performances on November 11 in Lakewood Ranch and on November 15 in Venice); Steinway artist Avis Romm, piano, performing with her son and outstanding trumpeter, Aaron Romm (December 21, 2016); Studio Artists from the Sarasota Opera, Sarasota’s ambassadors of opera who bring the art form to stages beyond the walls of the Opera House (January 18, 2107); the Lyric Duo, featuring the collaborative talents of Alison Brown Sincoff, flute and piccolo, and new Sarasota resident Gail Berenson, piano (February 15, 2017); Sarasota Orchestra violinists Christopher Takeda and Jennifer Best Takeda (March 22, 2017); and the swinging big band sounds of the Suncoast Jazz Ambassadors (April 19, 2017).
All Music Matinees performances are at noon. The November 11 performance is at Living Lord Lutheran Church, 11107 Palmbrush Trail, Lakewood Ranch; the November 15 performance is at Venice Presbyterian Church, 825 The Rialto, Venice. All other concerts are at the Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center, 709 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. All concerts are free and open to the public. Seating is open; no reservations accepted.
