The video for “Burning Sage” was filmed in Sage’s hometown of Nashville, TN and co-directed / edited by Jonah Best (Avril Lavigne, Gavin DeGraw, Wrabel) with Sage’s older brother Lagan Sebert. In the video, Sage is seen riding on top of a spray painted gold car as a nod to Kesha, where in her debut music video for the No. 1 smash hit “TiK ToK,” she rides on top of the gold 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am she received while negotiating her record deal in 2005. Sage was six years old when he appeared in Kesha’s video, and recalls that when he was young, Kesha told him that he could use the Trans Am when he became old enough to drive. The car has since broken down leaving him to his own devices. “Riding in my Firebird, speeding through the underworld,” Sage sings proudly in “Burning Sage.”
On the release, Sage says, “This video was always inside me. It’s the perfect peephole into my twisted psyche. The video is a ‘fuck you’ to any type of conformity or anybody who tells me what I can or can’t do something. We shot the video in one day with all my friends, right in the neighborhood Kesha and I grew up in. It just felt perfect for my first video. I originally asked Kesha if I could use the real Firebird for the video, but sadly it’s broken down out in her garage, so I spray painted my 2005 Hyundai Accent (my first high school car that I worked at Five Guys for a year to buy) as a parody of ‘TiK ToK’ because Kesha had a gold car in her first video (that I was in, lol) and I thought it would be a really funny nod.”
Born on another planet and dropped in Nashville TN, Sage was raised by a single mother, singer-songwriter Pebe Sebert, a mix of 8 rescue dogs, and two of his siblings – one of whom being GRAMMY® nominated pop superstar Kesha. Spending most of his life wreaking havoc backstage and on a tour bus, Sage’s life is anything but ordinary and his music stands to reflect.
Before graduating high school in 2018 and fulfilling his calling as a musician, Sage appeared in season 3 of The Simple Life with his family, where he introduced himself to Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie by shooting them with a Nerf Gun only seconds after they “intruded” upon the Seberts’ home. After Kesha rose to stardom, Sage was right there by her side, making appearances in the Nickelodeon series Victorious, walking the Kids’ Choice Awards carpet in 2013, and starring in season 1 and 2 of Kesha’s MTV series My Crazy Beautiful Life.
Sage’s musical influences come chiefly from artists he’s discovered after spending hours surfing SoundCloud and from his mother, Pebe, who’s written songs for Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Ariana Grande, Adam Lambert, and her daughter, Kesha. Sage also learned his basic production skills on Pro Tools and Logic by his mother. Keep an eye out for Sage – he has hundreds of songs ready to unveil to an unsuspecting world.
