RICHARD PARSONS AND MINTON’S THE FAMED HARLEM JAZZ SUPPER CLUB DEBUT

“LIVE AT MINTON’S VOL. 1: THE MINTON’S PLAYERS” FIRST EVER LIVE JAZZ CD

NEW YORK, NY (August 7, 2014) – When the original Minton’s Playhouse opened in 1938 the club quickly pioneered a movement in modern jazz, as legends including Thelonious Monk, Kenny Clarke, Charlie Christian, Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie took the stage and joined in regular jam sessions. Since the re-opening of MINTON’S in 2013, the ultra-sophisticated jazz supper club has become greatly celebrated, and MINTON’S is proud to announce the premiere release of a musical CD, “Live At Minton’s Vol. 1: The Minton’s Players,” from the house band.

With nightly concerts on the venue’s original stage accompanied by special weekend tributes to the Bebop era, The Minton’s Players first CD has been greatly anticipated. “It is an honor to have this opportunity to take the music from MINTON’S and share it with a larger community,” said music director Danny Mixon, who hand-picked the band.

Parsons, who is also Chairman of the Jazz Foundation of America, said of MINTON’S, “…it has always been a dream of mine to open a supper club where guests can enjoy the sounds of great musicians while dining on great food in elegant surroundings. The culture and atmosphere that once defined Harlem’s night scene and made it a destination has waned through the years, but Harlem is experiencing a renaissance.” The Minton’s Players have been instrumental in reviving Harlem, the birthplace of Bebop, and celebrating its roots with an eye towards its future.

“Live At Minton’s Vol. 1: The Minton’s Players” is now available on iTunes, Amazon, and at MINTON’S supper club.

MINTON’S resides at 206 West 118th Street and is open for dinner six days a week 5PM until 12 AM, and an additional late night seating on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Reservations are required.
