RHP TANNER SCHEPPERS ACTIVATED FROM 15-DAY DISABLED LIST

RHP Kyuji Fujikawa transferred to Round Rock to continue rehab assignment

Arlington, Texas–The Texas Rangers today announced that RHP Tanner Scheppers has been activated from the 15-day disabled list and will be in uniform when the club opens a three-game series in Seattle on Friday night.

In addition, RHP Kyuji Fujikawa has been transferred from Double-A Frisco to Triple-A Round Rock, effective today, to continue his rehab assignment.

Scheppers was placed on the disabled list on April 5, retroactive to March 29, with a right ankle sprain. He originally sustained the injury early in spring training and aggravated the condition while pitching on March 28 vs. San Diego.

Scheppers made three appearances on rehab assignment for Double-A Frisco, pitching 2.2 scoreless innings with no hits, 2 walks, and 5 strikeouts. The right-hander worked a scoreless inning with one strikeout in his last outing on April 12 vs. Northwest Arkansas.

Scheppers was 0-1, 9.00 in 8 games/4 starts with Texas in 2014 when he missed most of the season with right elbow inflammation. He was 6-1, 1.88 in 76 relief appearances in 2013.

Fujikawa went on the 15-day disabled list on April 5, retroactive to April 1 with a right groin strain. In his lone rehab outing at Frisco, he allowed 3 hits and 3 runs (1 ER) in 1.0 inning on April 14 versus Northwest Arkansas. Round Rock opens its 2015 home season tonight by hosting Memphis at Dell Diamond.

Signed as a free agent by Texas in December 2014, Fujikawa was limited to 15 games with the Chicago Cubs a year ago while continuing to rehab from ligament reconstruction surgery on his right elbow.
