April 3, 2023,
I had the pleasure of attending the Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe’s (WBTT) April Fools’ Fête fundraiser, it was an unforgettable experience. The sold-out event was a fundraiser for WBTT’s education programs. As someone who strongly believes in the importance of supporting arts education, it was heart-warming to see Sarasota come out to support upcoming talented youth! The organization’s commitment to mentoring and providing opportunities for young artists of color enriches our community.
The theme for the evening was “From WBTT to Broadway: Teresa Stanley’s Journey,” and the guest performer, Teresa Stanley, a founding member of the Troupe who has gone on to have a successful career on Broadway.
The event was held at Michael’s On East and featured a delicious dinner and open bar. The Troupe and WBTT’s live band provided outstanding entertainment, with Stanley delivering a show-stopping performance that left everyone in the audience in awe. Her voice was simply stunning, and it was a privilege to witness her talent up close.
The April Fools’ Fête was a fantastic evening filled with music, laughter, and heart. The Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe is an invaluable cultural institution, and I look forward to attending more of their events in the future. Go attend one of their performances, or fundraisers, I highly recommend it.
Proud of our Sarasota community who comes together every year, to support the Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe. The event was well-attended, and it was heartwarming to see so many people show their support for the organization’s mission. The event raised over $100K during the auction, which is a testament to the community’s commitment to the arts and to supporting young artists of color.
I was also impressed with the Stage of Discovery students who shared their “Big Dreams” during the event. These aspiring artists showed incredible talent and confidence, and it was clear that they have benefited greatly from WBTT’s education programs. It was inspiring to see them take steps towards making their dreams come true, and I am sure that they will continue to shine in their future endeavors.
Overall, I would highly recommend attending any of the Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe’s events or performances. The organization provides opportunities for young artists of color, and their commitment to education and community outreach is truly much needed. The April Fools’ Fête was an unforgettable evening, and I look forward to supporting WBTT’s mission in the future.
