New York, NY (May 12, 2014): Action architect and revolutionary choreographer Elizabeth Streb has joined thousands of artists from around the world to celebrate public art in
Art Set Free, an unprecedented global arts showcase that aims to create the world’s largest collection of public art over the next year. Acclaimed for presenting hundreds of exciting, world-class cultural experiences for free to hundreds of thousands of people each year worldwide, Arts Brookfield launched Art Set Free in October 2013 in celebration of its 25th Anniversary, aiming to create the world’s largest digital collection of public art. Since its launch, the Art Set Free showcase has collected over 10,000 pieces of art from artists in over 50 countries, including Australia, Brazil and India.

Streb recently filmed a message for Art Set Free encouraging artists around the world to “set their art free” with the hashtag #ArtSetFree on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.

“What’s beautiful about Arts Brookfield is that it’s not altruism. It’s a belief, a code of the industry that this is something that’s important for the culture,” Streb said. “I have great confidence and great esteem for the idea of Art Set Free. And for people walking by to look up and think what’s going on and what can that mean for me tomorrow morning? To make every single person feel that they could get up the next day and do the impossible thing for themselves.”

“Elizabeth Streb is one of the greatest artistic talents of this generation, and we are delighted to have her participate in Art Set Free,” said Debra Simon, Vice President and Artistic Director of Arts Brookfield. “For 25 years, Arts Brookfield has ‘set art free’ for the public with free cultural experiences at Brookfield’s premier properties throughout the world. Through Art Set Free, we wanted to engage the global art community and encourage artists in all genres to make the world their stage. With over 10,000 pieces over submitted to date, I believe we are making great strides toward achieving this goal.”

Other established artists who assisted in launching the global Art Set Free showcase include Executive Artistic Director of New York Live Arts and Tony Award winner Bill T. Jones; Broadway Legend and Tony Award Winner Brian Stokes Mitchell; and the acclaimed vocal ensemble The Tenors.
