WATCH: Momentum: Chicago’s Queer Underground Mecca –

Los Angeles, CA (November 28, 2018) – Red Bull Music is sharing a new video from their Momentum series that celebrates the impact of creative scenes on societal progression. The inaugural video “Momentum: Chicago’s Queer Underground” introduces the leaders of Chicago’s LGBTQIA+ creative communities who are impacted by socio-geographical factors, and, as a result, developing their city into an inclusive cultural mecca. The film tells the stories behind the artistic collectives elevating Chicago’s marginalized communities to reshape the city’s narrative, including the founders of Chicago’s longest-running weekly party Queen!, queer Black femme collective Party Noire, LGBTQIA+-centric label and artist collective FutureHood, and drag performers Bambi Banks and Kenzie Coulee.
The short film shines a spotlight on the groundbreaking individuals hosting safe spaces for all forms of queer self-expression, encouraging collaboration during an especially politically charged and divisive time for the country. Michael Serafini and Dan Polyak of Queen!, Nick Alder and Rae Chardonnay of Party Noire, and Mister Wallace, Anthony “aCeb00mbaP” Pabey, and Hijo Pródigo of FutureHood share why inclusion is necessary and why Chicago has served as the hotbed for these artistic communities to thrive.
Red Bull Music previously supported Queen! with an upleveled edition of their weekly party featuring world-renown drag performers as part of Red Bull Music Presents, an international initiative that celebrates diverse music scenes in 60+ cities globally including Amsterdam, Cairo, Moscow, Beirut, Tokyo, Milan, Reykjavik, Berlin, Paris, Santiago, Vancouver, Sao Paulo, Melbourne and more.
The short film also arrives on the heels of FutureHood hosting an event during Red Bull Music Festival in Chicago that took place throughout the month of November, highlighting the socially-liberating and underground community of LGBTQIA+ rappers, DJs and singers. On November 23rd at Chicago’s Wicker Park venue Subterranean, FutureHood’s Mister Wallace and rising Chicago artists on the label like Roy Kinsey and KC Ortiz joined several other forward-thinking creatives to showcase the diversity and dynamism of their movement.
Red Bull Music Festival Chicago, takes place at some of the city’s most unique venues, featuring a month-long slate of expertly curated original programming spanning the city’s diverse music genres. The festival explores and celebrates Chicago’s rich cultural heritage while spotlighting its modern music landscape.
