RANGERS RECALL RHP NICK MARTINEZ FROM DOUBLE-A FRISCO;
DESIGNATE RHP HECTOR NOESI FOR ASSIGNMENT
Oakland, Calif. — The Texas Rangers announced today that the club has recalled right-handed pitcher Nick Martinez (#22) from Double-A Frisco. To make room on the active roster for Martinez, the club has designated right-handed pitcher Hector Noesi for assignment.
Martinez, 23, is the scheduled starter for tonight’s game in Oakland. He made major league debut in the Rangers’ 5-4 loss on April 5 at Tampa Bay (6.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R-ER) and was optioned to Frisco the next day. He had no record and a 1.86 ERA (2 ER/9.2 IP) in 2 starts in the Texas League, including taking a no decision in Frisco’s 3-2 win over Corpus Christi on Thursday (4.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R-ER, 98 pitches/60 strikes).
Noesi has made 3 appearances for the Rangers since being acquired in an April 12 trade with Seattle. He allowed 7 runs in his last outing on Sunday vs. Chicago-AL. The Rangers have 10 days to trade, release, or outright Noesi to the minor leagues.
With today’s moves, the Rangers now have 39 players on the club’s 40-man roster.
