RANGERS PURCHASE CONTRACT OF RHP COLBY LEWIS FROM TRIPLE-A ROUND ROCK;

DESIGNATE RHP DANIEL McCUTCHEN FOR ASSIGNMENT

Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers announced today that the club has purchased the contract of right-handed pitcher Colby Lewis from Triple-A Round Rock. To make room for Lewis on the both the 40-man and active rosters, the club has designated right-handed pitcher Daniel McCutchen for assignment.

Lewis, 34, is the scheduled starter for tonight’s series opener against Seattle.  He will be making his first major league appearance since July 18, 2012 at Oakland after being sidelined due to multiple surgeries.  Lewis last pitched for Round Rock on April 6 vs. Oklahoma City (L, 5.0 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 SO, 1 HB, 98 pitches/62 strikes).  He was the Rangers’ Opening Day starter in 2012 and is the all-time franchise leader with 4 postseason wins.

McCutchen has made one appearance over 2 stints with the Rangers this season (April 1-4 and April 7-13), allowing 3 runs (2 earned) in 2.1 innings on April 4 at Tampa Bay.  The Rangers have 10 days to trade, release, or outright McCutchen to the minor leagues.

Following today’s moves, the Rangers still have a full 40-man roster.
