RANGERS NAME FRANCISCO MATOS HICKORY HITTING COACH

Club also adds coaches to several affiliates

 

Arlington, Texas – The Texas Rangers today announced the addition Francisco Matos as the hitting coach at Low-A Hickory. Texas also named additional coaches to the staffs of four minor league affiliates.

 

Matos has spent the last eight seasons as a hitting instructor in the Los Angeles Angels organization, most recently with Triple-A Salt Lake. The former second baseman made his major league debut with Oakland in 1994 and appeared in 14 games with the Athletics that season. He spent 16 seasons in the minor leagues, playing in the Oakland, Pittsburgh, Montreal, Baltimore, New York-AL, Tampa Bay, and Seattle farm systems.

 

Texas has also added James Vilade (Frisco), Alberto Puello (High Desert), Chad Comer (Hickory), and Chase Lambin (Spokane) as coaches with minor league clubs. For the last four seasons, Vilade has assisted hitting coach Jason Hart and the amateur scouting staff. Puello is a former Texas farmhand and spent the last two seasons assisting the AZL Rangers staff. Comer was a standout catcher at the University of Texas-Arlington and spent two seasons in the Atlanta farm system. Lambin played 13 seasons at the minor league level and concluded his playing career with the Sugar Land Skeeters in 2014.
