When Porter Robinson revealed “Sea Of Voices” – the first track from his forthcoming debut albumWorlds – during the Oscars via Twitter earlier this month, fans took note: “Sea Of Voices” trended #1 on Facebook as the awards show aired live that evening. The song – a gauzy and atmospheric offering that represents a major sonic departure for Robinson’s previous work – saw more than half-a-million Soundcloud streams in a single day, later shooting to #2 on iTunes electronic chart, #5 on HypeM and #5 on Spotify’s viral chart, eliciting comparisons to Sigur Rós, M83, and Orbital from fans and media alike.
“Think of [“Sea Of Voices”] as the rising producer’s take on Sigur Rós’ ‘Hoppipola'” praised The NME.“With ambient melodies, and an overall vibe similar to the atmospheric tones of M83 and famed UK duo Orbital, it’s clear that Porter has evolved” added Vice/Thump and “How much more epic does it get? (None more epic)” posited Spin.
Today Porter releases “Sea Of Voices” (RAC Mix), a poppier, synth-inflected take on the track from the highly-respected international Remix Artist Collective. The remix, which premiered via Jason Bentley’s Morning Becomes Eclectic this past Friday, features playful synthesizers, precise electronics and the vocal hook placed front-and-center, with RAC’s signature brand of intelligent synth-pop adding new dimension to the stunning setup single.
“Sea Of Voices” and “Sea Of Voices” (RAC Mix) are out now on iTunes. The track represents the continued progression of Porter’s artistic evolution; one that sees him embracing the elegant and unexpected in ways that extend far beyond music and into a fully fleshed-out artistic vision.
Porter releases his highly-anticipated debut artist album worlds – a cinematic excursion that fuses his technological prowess with his love of evocative melody – later this year on Astralwerks (US) and Virgin EMI (UK). Check out the album’s cryptically beautiful 10-hour teaser video here.
