LAUNCHING NOVEMBER 1 IN MEMPHIS
“a record of disarming directness…”
– 4/5 Mojo
“…a frequently hopeful and vulnerable collection of songs and impressions. ‘Big Blue Sky’ was inspired by the American landscape he’s seen so often on cross-country tours with PiL. Amid the shimmer and throb on ‘Spice of Choice,’ he offers an encouraging view of life’s possibilities and the ability to affect your destiny instead of surrendering to circumstance.”
–Los Angeles Times
“…construct sturdy grooves and momentum-building loops that Lydon sprays his voice all over like graffiti splattering a wall. The moments when the music matches the intensity of Lydon’s singing are exhilarating.”
–Pitchfork
“a unique voice still raging…”
– 4/5 Q Magazine
“…these 11 funk-stained numbers prove John Lydon is still as relevant and necessary as he has ever been.”
–Under The Radar
“an impressive comeback… Lydon remains a devout pop modernist.”
– Uncut
“A still-vital John Lydon rages towards retirement on a saucy, scuzzy new album.”
– NME
“Lydon remains at his most cogent and compelling when making music.”
-4/5 Mail on Sunday
“…the barrelling tumult of ‘Double Trouble’, the Bowie-esque grandeur of ‘Bettie Page’ and the Roxy Music-ish thrust of ‘Spice of Choice’ flaunt energised reserves of elevating, Davros-barking distinction.”
– Independent on Sunday
PUBLIC IMAGE LTD released their 10th studio album WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NOW… on September 4 to critical acclaim. The 11-track album, which charted at No.29 in the Official UK Charts, follows the huge critical success of 2012’s This is PiL, the band’s first album in 17 years. Today (September 17) the UK group have released the “making of” video for their critically acclaimed new album WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NOW… Watch and share the clip on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/JpefsQF_tmA.
The making of video was filmed in the Cotswolds’ by John Rambo Stevens (John Lydon/PiL manager) who had unrivalled access to the recording and writing of the new album. The video shows a candid glimpse of PUBLIC IMAGE LTD’s creative process and humour which is rarely seen by the public.
Album opener and lead single “Double Trouble” sees the band launching into a statement of intent. Out now, and reaching #2 in the Vinyl Singles Chart and #3 in the Physical Singles Chart, the 10″ vinyl version is backed by “Bettie Page” and also comes with additional non-album bonus track “Turkey Tits.”
Widely regarded as one of the most innovative and influential bands of all time, PUBLIC IMAGE LTD‘s music and vision earned them 5 UK Top 20 singles and 5 UK Top 20 albums. With a shifting line-up and unique sound, JOHN LYDON guided the band from their debut album ‘First Issue’ in 1978 through to 1992’s That What Is Not. After a 17-year hiatus, LYDON reactivated PiL in 2009 by taking them back on the road worldwide.
Last year the band returned to Steve Winwood’s Wincraft studio in the Cotswolds’ to record the new album. The release of WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NOW… precedes the start of their 23-date UK/Europe tour, which kicks off in Glasgow this Friday September 18t and follows on from last year’s one-off sold-out show at London’s Indigo at the 02. After the UK/Europe tour the group will return to North America for their first show in three years, a special performance at the Voodoo Music + Arts Experience in New Orleans, LA on Halloween night, Saturday, October 31. After their appearance at Voodoo Music + Arts Experience,PUBLIC IMAGE LTD will launch a North American tour on November 1 in Memphis, TN that will continue through November 29 in Los Angeles.Tickets forVoodoo are available nowat: www.worshipthemusic.com and the PUBLIC IMAGE LTDU.S.tour is on-sale now viawww.pilofficial.com
