PRINCETON UNIVERSITY CONCERTS OFFERS TWO DO-RE-MEET SOCIAL EVENTS FOR MUSIC LOVERS
Designed to help people connect over a mutual interest in music, this groundbreaking program—facilitated by The Singles Group—will bring concertgoers two opportunities to connect on March 26 with Speed Dating and Find My Friends events at the historic Maclean House on the Princeton University campus.
PRINCETON, NJ—In the aftermath of pandemic shutdowns, Princeton University Concerts (“PUC”) redoubled its commitment to providing new points of connection through music. In December, the concert series launched a brand-new initiative: Do-Re-Meet – Social Events for Music Lovers. The first program of its kind, Do-Re-Meet encompasses a variety of pre-concert events including speed dating; Find Your Friends, a “speed friending” event for people seeking a concert-going community; and an LGBTQ+ Single Mingle, presented in partnership with the Princeton University Gender + Sexuality Resource Center. Attendees enjoy hors d’oeuvres and new connections facilitated by The Singles Group at the historic Maclean House on Princeton’s campus. They then take a short walk together to Richardson Auditorium, Alexander Hall to enjoy a concert on PUC’s Performances Up Close series.
On Sunday, March 26, there will be two versions of Do-Re-Meet: another Speed Dating event at 1PM (added due to the popular demand of the launch event in December) and Find Your Friends at 4PM, for anyone to meet their fellow concertgoers. Both events are paired with a performance by the world-renowned Chiaroscuro String Quartet featuring music by Beethoven and Mendelssohn that was inspired by love.
Princeton University Concerts’ Director Marna Seltzer shares: “Patrons often remark that the people who sit near them become life-long friends. Patrons also say that not having someone with whom to attend keeps people from coming to concerts. These considerations are partially why we created Find Your Friends! A mutual appreciation of music can serve as such a strong point of connection and only strengthens the PUC community. Our hunch proved correct in December, when 60% of our speed dating attendees found matches at the inaugural, sold-out Do-Re-Meet event. We are excited to do it again.”
“The world’s greatest musicians among friends’ is Princeton University Concerts’ motto,” says Outreach manager Dasha Koltunyuk. “Do-Re-Meet is the extension of that vision. We were so thrilled with the success of our first Do-Re-Meet speed dating. Here’s to music-loving friendships, too!”
Koltunyuk shared that she met her husband, composer/pianist Gregg Kallor, at a PUC Performances Up Close event several years ago. “We happened to sit next to each other at a performance by the Escher String Quartet, and it was love at first note,” she describes. “I so hope that these Do-Re-Meet events will help others find that same incredibly deep connection—whether romantic or platonic—that music can so magically foster.”
Tickets for the full evening—admission to both the Do-Re-Meet event and the ensuing concert—are $50 General/$20 Student. Patrons already holding tickets to events on the Performances Up Close series can add-on the Do-Re-Meet experience by contacting PUC at 609-258-2800 or through puc.princeton.edu
