Portion of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way to close for railroad track replacement
SARASOTA COUNTY – A small section of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way will close starting Monday, June 24 for a railroad track replacement project that will run through Friday, July 12.
The closure extends just west of Leonard Reid Avenue. East of the railroad crossing will remain open to vehicular traffic, from Tuttle Avenue to Leonard Reid Avenue.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way will also be open on the west side of the railroad crossing to vehicular traffic, from North Washington Boulevard to 700 feet east.
Detour signs will be placed in the area to guide vehicular traffic around the active construction site.
The track replacement is part of the railroad replacement capital improvement project, which was approved by the Sarasota County Board of County Commissioners in April. The project, which cost approximately $309,090, is part of an ongoing county-wide railroad crossing replacement program.
