Pittsburgh, PA…It’s back by popular demand! This glittery Pittsburgh Opera event, the only one of its kind in Pittsburgh, returns to Carnegie Music Hall in Oakland to ring in 2015. New Year’s Eve: As Time Goes By takes place Wednesday, December 31 beginning at 7:30 PM. This year, the celebration features a cocktail reception in the Hall of Sculpture; dinner in the elegant setting of the Music Hall Foyer; operatic entertainment drawn from the Viennese and American musical theater traditions, a party with desserts and dancing to the music of Protégé, and a champagne toast at midnight.
The evening’s musical entertainment is an ingenious blend of grand opera, operetta, and musical theater, with an overarching narrative, recalling the grand ball scene of the New Year’s Eve classic Die Fledermaus. Featuring the Resident Artists, Peter Kope and Michele de la Reza of Attack Theatre, and members of the Pittsburgh Opera Orchestra, the program includes selections such as Strauss’s Tritsch-Tratsch Polka, Lehar’s Merry Widow Waltz, “So in Love” from Cole Porter’s Kiss Me, Kate, the Seguidilla from Bizet’s Carmen, “Some Enchanted Evening” from Rodgers & Hammerstein’s South Pacific, and “Sing to Love” from Johann Strauss II’s Die Fledermaus, among other light-hearted and sentimental gems.
Valet parking is included in all “As Time Goes By” event packages, which are $175 – $500 per person. RSVP by Friday, December 19 to Alli Frymoyer at 412-281-0912, ext. 225 or at pittsburghopera.org.
