Pat Roberts & the Heymakers 2nd album: devilishly elegant
Still faithful to classic country and rockabilly style, Pat Roberts and the Heymakers delivers a mature record titled “Devil” on Sept. 20, 2014 with CD release party at the Blooze Bar in Phoenix, AZ. The album features powerful songs “a la” Roy Orbison for its velvet tones and bittersweet gravity, with a daring Latin overtone. The whole production is lush and elegant. A must Have, must see!

Pat Roberts and the Heymakers are well known AZ staple for their authentic rock/honky tonk music and Pat’s trademark crooning. Pat (vocals and guitars) from Prescott, AZ, was offered his first guitar as a wee kid, and played all the country hits with his older brother Mike (Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, etc…). Aged 15, he embraces Rock & Roll. What is a bass? ‘Bought one anyways, and played all the clubs on Whiskey Row right out of high school. To a ranch kid, playing there was pretty much “the big time”! He is later recruited by The Llory McDonald Band, and then moves to Phoenix opening a show for Deep Purple at The Celebrity Theater. Pat then worked the San Diego circuit fronting for Things, and back to Phoenix with Small Paul and Driving Wheel. With his co-founded project The Stilettos, opens for acts such as Buddy Guy, Marcia Ball, Duke Robillard… Time for change: Country music, on guitar. Joining several bands with Phoenix Rockabilly legends Bruce Hamblin and Mario Moreno, Pat founds Pat Roberts and The Heymakers opening shows for The Blasters, Junior Brown, Dave Alvin, Los Straightjackets, and The Derailers, earning respect for being “the real thing”. In 2011, the band recorded its first album “Lonesome and blue”. Classic country and rockabilly songs largely influenced by Pat’s heroes (Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, Hank Williams…). Beautifully vintage featuring Roberts’ weatherproof crooning talent. In 2012, the band is noticed for its cover of “Creep” (Radiohead) with a unique Southwest signature. The band now incorporates Amanda Lee, singer and bassist, and Tom “Hacksaw” Coulson on drums.

“Devil” CD release party on September 20th, 2014 at the Blooze Bar, Phoenix, AZ
Beginning of 2014, the band records new album “ Devil” at Electric Lotus Music in Phoenix, AZ. While holding true to its vintage roots, they explore new territories from jazz to Latin music. All songs are brand new originals. “This album is definitely a big step forward for me as far as songwriting. More complex chords structures and hopefully more poetic lyrics.” explains Pat Roberts. His influences are based on his encyclopedic knowledge of American music: “Bo Diddley was definitely an influence, also Link Wray and T-Bone Walker. Nick Curran is one of my favorite artists. The song “Dark Blue” was influenced by Billie Holiday‘s “Gloomy Sunday”. The song “Angel From Above” was influenced by Roy Orbison, and I wanted the orchestration to be like his records. Also, Ricky Nelson albums are very cool, with James Burton on guitar. When I was a kid, my favorite musician was Glen Campbell, his songs always had very lush arrangements, and super cool guitars too.”
Strings, piano, pedal steel, percussions came to complete the trio for a rich and refined production. The songs shine with velvet tones and bittersweet gravity.
Pat’s vocals travels easily from a style to another, reaching the height of his talent on the Cuban haunting ballad (Marcos Crego on the piano) that gave the title to the record. It’s devilishly beautiful.
After touring in France this summer, the band is back home to officially unleash “Devil” on Sept. 20th, 2014, with CD release party at the Blooze Bar in Phoenix, AZ.
