This Weekend Only, Parson’s Nose Presents Little Sophie’s Misfortunes: A Cautionary Tale,

A Readers’ Theater Series Performance

Saturday, April 12th to Sunday, April 13th

Parson’s Nose Theater (PNT) presents Little Sophie’s Misfortunes: A Cautionary Tale this weekend to conclude their 2013-14 Season. This performance is being presented as a part of their Readers’ Theater Series.

“I found them about a year ago, and I must say I was immediately attracted to their slightly perverse Edward Gorey feel,” says Artistic Director, Lance Davis. “Little Sophie’s Misfortunes is a translation and adaptation for theater, of a novel written in 1858 by Russian-born, Sofiya Rostopchina, Comtesse de Ségur, Little Sophie is a headstrong little girl who has “self control” issues, refusing to make the obedient choice and suffering disastrous consequences. Whether the good Comtesse mined experiences from her own childhood or from her eight children doesn’t matter. They are universal, classic, and worthy of being placed next to The Baltimore Catechism and Roald Dahl. I love to think of the Comtesse sitting quietly in her writing room, hearing the distant screams of children and nannies from another wing, and quilling the next adventure of her heroine.

The Comtesse de Ségur called her tales “cautionary”. For whom? The children…or us? Join us for our season finale!”

Parson’s Nose Theater’s 2013-14 Season concludes with Little Sophie’s Misfortunes, April 12th at 7pm and April 13th at 3pm. Running time appx. 90 minutes including intermission. Appropriate ages 9+.
