(Sarasota, FL) – “The Paris attacks are France’s 9/11” made an immediate and deeply personal impression on Designing Women Boutique’s Sarasota founders and supporters. Currently in the closing weeks of planning DWB’s annual fundraising Gala “An Evening at Moulin Rouge”, which includes an all-expenses-paid trip to Paris as the highlighted live auction item, the event Co-Chairs and Executive Committee considered altering the fundraiser all together out of respect for the Parisian victims, families, and France.
At the Gala Patron Reception on Monday, held in the DWB shop and attended by a number of the organization’s original donors and supporters, Gala Co-Chair Kathy Coffey reiterated how 14 years ago after our own country’s national tragedy on 9/11, the founders of what would become the DWB were moved to do something meaningful to give back to life in the Sarasota they loved.  The vision of a designer-based consignment shop turning gently used fine fashion into grants supporting Sarasota’s arts and human services grew out of that tragedy and continues today.
The Gala’s other Co-Chair, Renee Hamad, lived in Paris for many years and still has friends living in the city. “We will not be deterred,” said Coffey.  “We need to show solidarity with France’s victims.  We share France’s values of Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite, and will not let those evil people stop us. We will go forward and make this event the best ever.”
