CHICAGO — Due to a scheduling conflict, renowned Mexican singer Paquita la del Barrio has postponed her upcoming Symphony Center Presents Special Concert on Sunday, March 30. The concert, which marks her Symphony Center debut, has been moved to Saturday, June 28 at 8 p.m.
Tickets purchased for the March concert will be honored in June. For more information, please call CSO Patron Services at 312-294-3000.
One of Latin music’s biggest stars, and revered in her native Mexico, Paquita la del Barrio delivers moving songs of heartbreak and revenge, defeat and defiance, evoking life in a hard-luck barrio. Her music is built upon the traditionalranchera musical style, a bare-bones Mexican folk tradition and a historically male-dominated genre.
Born in Alto Lucero, Veracruz on April 2nd, 1947, Paquita has gained prestige due partly to her advocacy against Mexico’s sexist male culture. She won a “Premio Lo Nuestro” and a “Premio de la Gente” and was nominated for a Grammy in 2008 for her album Puro Dolor as well as in 2014 for her album Romeo Y Su Nieta. Her prolific recording career, spanning 33 albums with over 20 million copies sold, encompasses work across many styles, includingnorteño, banda and grupera. Her most recent Chicago area appearance was in 2013 at the Genesee Theater in Waukegan. Updated Program and Ticket Details:
