Operatic Superstar Jonas Kaufmann Hits the Big Screen With
‘An Evening with Puccini’ in Select U.S. Cinemas This February
Fathom Events and Arts Alliance Present a One-Night Event Featuring Kaufmann’s Celebrated Puccini Concert from La Scala, Milan, in Movie Theaters on February 23
DENVER – December 15, 2015 – Jonas Kaufmann is no stranger to the big screen, and in 2016 he makes his highly anticipated solo cinematic debut with the concert event, “Jonas Kaufmann: An Evening with Puccini” presented by Fathom Events and produced by Arts Alliance. Shot on location in Italy, cinema audiences will take a front row seat at Jonas’ enthusiastically acclaimed Puccini concert, captured live from La Scala, Milan, which includes many of Puccini’s most loved tenor arias including “Nessun dorma.” Directed by Brian Large, this thrilling cinematic event includes a revealing introduction to Puccini – the man, the musician, the superstar – narrated by Jonas and featuring rare archive footage. The event will screen in select U.S. cinemas nationwide for one night on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. local time.
Tickets for “Jonas Kaufmann: An Evening with Puccini” can be purchased beginning Friday, January 15, 2016, by visiting www.FathomEvents.com or at participating theater box offices. Fans throughout the U.S. will be able to enjoy this event in select movie theaters through Fathom’s Digital Broadcast Network. For a complete list of theater locations visit the Fathom Events website (theaters and participants are subject to change).
“No aria is as loved today as ‘Nessun dorma.’ The legendary first concert of the Three Tenors took place only a few days before my twenty-first birthday, and for a long time I didn’t dare sing ‘Nessun dorma’ myself, since I was so in awe of the aria’s magic and its incredible appeal. Even today, whenever I hear and sing this aria, I still get goosebumps,” said Jonas Kaufmann.
Kaufmann’s voice is celebrated for its expressive power, flawless technique and versatility. He has performed Puccini roles on stage throughout his career to critical and audience acclaim, and Puccini’s music – celebrated amongst opera fans and novices alike – made a deep impression on Kaufmann from an early age. Central to this concert event is Kaufmann’s unforgettable Puccini recital at the iconic La Scala, Milan, which he described as one of the greatest nights of his life, making national news in Italy. The event was such a success that after five encores and 40 minutes of applause, the crowd was still standing. Cinema audiences will experience this much-praised event, featuring the Filarmonica della Scala conducted by Jochen Rieder.
“Jonas Kaufmann’s legendary Milan concert left audiences wanting more. We are thrilled to be bringing this spectacular concert to the big screen in February to give fans the ultimate music experience,” said Fathom Events CEO John Rubey.
“Producing this concert event with Jonas Kaufmann for cinema was a real privilege and we are delighted to share this once-in-a-life-time performance from La Scala, the home of Italian opera, with opera fans across the US,” said Nick Varley, CEO of Arts Alliance.
