OPEN ROAD FILMS, MOVIETICKETS.COM AND GOCOIN PARTNER FOR FIRST EVER BITCOIN FILM TICKETS PARTNERSHIP FOR UPCOMING NATIONWIDE RELEASE OF DOPE
Moviegoers can purchase tickets for DOPE using digital currency Bitcoin exclusively through MovieTickets.com
NEW YORK (June 15, 2015) – For the upcoming nationwide release of the highly anticipated comedy DOPE, Open Road Films has partnered with MovieTickets.com, and the leading international payment platform GoCoin to accept Bitcoin as payment when purchasing movie tickets at participating theaters. Thanks to the vision of social media agency PARTIQAL who brought the parties together, for the first time moviegoers will be able to utilize Bitcoin as an alternative payment option when purchasing tickets to the film, which opens in theaters everywhere this Friday, June 19, 2015.
GoCoin will provide a payment gateway on MovieTickets.com for over 900 of the approximately 2000 theaters across the US where DOPE will be playing. Starting June 15, 2015, moviegoers can buy tickets for DOPE using Bitcoin. Just as a customer would select other payment options, moviegoers paying with Bitcoin enjoy the simplicity of checkout without entering all of the information required with credit cards.
“DOPE is fresh, innovative and cutting edge. This partnership reflects all of those qualities of the movie,” stated Open Road Film’s Chief Marketing Officer Jason Cassidy. “Bitcoin is an integral part of DOPE and we could not be more excited to bring this unique new opportunity to moviegoers.”
Joel Cohen, CEO of MovieTickets.com, stated, “MovieTickets.com thrives on these types of opportunities. It’s cool, it’s original and we’re going above and beyond the common boundaries to drive ticket sales.”
“As a Los Angeles based company, GoCoin is targeting the entertainment verticals with specific payment solutions that remove friction for both the merchant and consumer,” said GoCoin’s Founder & CEO, Steve Beauregard. “Our goal is to create a one-stop payments and loyalty solution for merchants to streamline checkout and expand sales while protecting the consumer’s privacy.”
The recent addition of Regal Entertainment Group (NYSE: RGC) to the MovieTickets.com network, which added 7,334 screens in 570 theatres, provides a significant boost for Bitcoin acceptance.
