Sarasota, FL– On January 27 thru April 20, 2016, Three paintings by Sarasota artist, Gay Germain, will be on view in the upcoming 2016 Florida Contemporary, a multimedia art exhibition showcasing artists current practicing in Florida whose work evidences the diversity of approaches to personal, local and global themes. Experimentation with innovative techniques coupled with comprehensive knowledge of the history of art characterizes the works in this year’s selection.
In its fifth installment, the exhibition is particularly concerned with giving emerging artists the opportunity to introduce themselves to a broad sector of the public and exhibit alongside established figures in Florida’s contemporary art scene. From over 100 artist applications, only 16 artists were accepted to this important juried exhibition. From realism to abstraction and everything in between, Florida Contemporary features an exciting array of artists that visitors can discover for themselves. This exhibition provides an intriguing look at the innovative images, subject matter, techniques and mediums that exemplify art being created throughout Florida today.
This is Germain’s second invitation to exhibit in the juried exhibition Florida Contemporary. After pursuing a successful business career, Germain began formal art studies in New York under the tutelage of the internationally renowned sculptor, Leonda Finke. Eventually gravitating to painting, Gay initially explored watercolor, and gradually incorporated oil, acrylic, and mixed media into her work.
Ongoing education, including study of life drawing at the National Academy of Art and Design and printmaking at the Robert Blackburn Studio, has helped sharpen her artistic sense, and expand both her interests and capabilities. After moving to Sarasota, Florida, in 2002, Gay studied under the guidance of Master Printer, Patrick Lindhardt, at The Ringling College of Art and Design, and most recently with nationally recognized artist Katherine Chang Liu, of Ventura, California.
Germain’s paintings have been featured in both solo and group exhibitions nationally including the Chelsea Art Museum in East Norwich, the Nassau County Museum of Art in Roslyn Harbor, the Daytona Beach Museum of Arts and Sciences, , and the Selby Gallery of the Ringling College of Art and Design. In addition, her work is in private collection throughout the United States.
