O’GRADY, VARNER PROMOTED FROM DAYTON TO DAYTONA

 

DAYTON, OHIO—The Dayton Dragons announced the following roster changes today:

 

Left-handed pitcher Seth Varner and outfielder Brian O’Grady have been promoted from Dayton to Daytona (Florida State League).

 

Right-handed pitcher Tyler Mahle has been activated from the temporary inactive list.

 

Left-handed pitcher Jacob Moody has been promoted to Dayton from Billings (Pioneer League).

 

The Dragons roster remains at the Midwest League limit of 25 players.

 

Varner made 14 starts for the Dragons this season, going 7-4 with a 2.88 earned run average. The product of Miami University walked only five batters in 78 innings.

 

O’Grady appeared in a team-leading 71 games for the Dragons, batting .271 with six home runs and 36 runs batted in. He also stole 21 bases and posted an .835 OPS.

 

Mahle, who will start tonight’s game vs. the Great Lakes Loons at Fifth Third Field, has made 13 starts and one relief appearance for the Dragons this season, going 6-5 with a 3.15 ERA. He pitched in the Midwest League All-Star Game last Tuesday in Peoria, Illinois.

 

Moody has appeared as a reliever in three of the 10 games that Billings has played this season. He is 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA (6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 4 SO). Moody, 22, was born in Memphis, Tennessee and played college baseball at the University of Memphis before being selected in the 17th round of the 2014 draft by the Reds. He spent the summer of 2012 playing in Southwestern Ohio for the Hamilton Joes of the Great Lakes League.

 

The Dragons host Great Lakes (Los Angeles Dodgers affiliate) tonight, Tuesday, and Wednesday. All three games start at 7:00 p.m.
