NEW AUTOMATED PASSPORT CONTROL KIOSKS AT LAX QUICKENS FEDERAL INSPECTION OF INTERNATIONAL ARRIVING PASSENGERS
Self-Help Kiosks Reduce International Passenger Wait Times 34 Percent
WHAT:
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and officials at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will hold a news conference to unveil and demonstrate Automated Passport Control (APC) kiosks recently installed in the Tom Bradley International Terminal. APC is an innovative technology that uses self-service kiosks to allow international passengers to submit their declaration and biographic information electronically and reduce the time they spend with a CBP officer. This has resulted in a 34 percent decrease in wait times at LAX. The APC process will ultimately reduce the traveler’s time spent with a CBP officer and reduce processing times while increasing security.
The APCs are similar in appearance to and as easy-to-use as Automated Teller Machines (ATMs). The APCs provide step-by-step instructions in several languages for travelers to complete the process.
