(Miami, FL) – Neff Rental is honored to be the co-sponsor of the 18th Annual Jose A. Perez ALS Golf Classic, April 12th 2014 at Doral Golf Resort.
Jose Perez, the co-founder of Neff Rental, was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) in 1991. Thanks to the persistence and fight of Perez’s sons, and with the help of the University of Miami School of Medicine, the ALS Research Foundation was born. The foundation has since raised over $2 million for patient care and research for a cure.
ALS is a common neuromuscular disease that affects people of all backgrounds, affecting people in their 40’s-60’s, and is more prevalent in males. ALS causes muscles to contract, resulting in muscle weakness, atrophy, spasticity, or excess muscle tone. This becomes increasingly painful and all muscle function and neurological impulses begin to weaken, eventually causing total loss of muscle function and, in many cases, death.
For the past 18 years, the ALS Golf Classic has been held in honor of Jose Perez, who lost his battle to ALS in 2001. The Golf Classic provides the opportunity for professional and amateur golfers alike to come together for a great cause benefitting the ALS Recovery Fund.
