MUSIC FOR TINY HUMANS: A SPECIAL EVENT WITH COY BOWLES
Thu, May 7, 4 pm, $5* |
Coy Bowles’ long-awaited children’s album of original songs for kids has arrived. With tons of heart and soul, tunes like “The Dinosaur Dance,” and “Behind the Little Red Door” (based on Bowles’ hit book), this album provides a one-of-a-kind social-emotional learning experience perfect for tots and parents alike. Bowles is known as the acclaimed songwriter and multi-instrumentalist member of the three-time Grammy Award-winning Zac Brown Band. This Atlanta father of two is also renowned in educational circles as the author of children’s picture books Will Powers: Where There’s a Will There’s a Way, When You’re Feeling Sick, and Behind the Little Red Door. These stories also provided inspiration for Bowles’ new songs. Carlos Sosa, an Austin-based Latin Grammy winner, produced this album of positive and friendly tracks with styles ranging from NOLA jazz to reggae, bluesy rock to country pop. |

SOUND COLLAGE: AN INTRODUCTION TO ELECTRONIC SOUND DESIGN AND COMPOSITION
Open to Ages 8-18, Details here
Begins Tuesdays, May 19 (4 classes), $150* |
Join composer and performer, Dr. Kyle Landry, as we explore the fascinating world of electronic sound design and composition. No music experience necessary! During this introductory course students will learn skills and techniques used in electronic sound design and composition such as sound recording, manipulating audio clips, and mixing and mastering. Across the course of the class, students will use Audacity (FREE professional recording software) to record and create a sound collage. A sound collage is an abstract piece of music created by recording and looping short audio clips then using the audio effects built into Audacity to manipulate them. Play clips backwards, slow them down, speed them up, give them rhythm, pitch, or resonance. There is virtually an endless list of effects that can be applied to create your abstract masterpiece! In order to complete a sound collage by the end of the class students will be expected to work on their project between classes. Come explore with us!
