THE RADIO CITY STAGE DOOR TOUR AT RADIO CITY MUSIC HALLNo trip to New York is complete without a visit to the legendary Radio City Music Hall. Take a step back in time at “the Showplace of the Nation” where entertainers have performed for over six decades. The Radio City Stage Door Tour is a fascinating, one-hour excursion behind the scenes of one of New York’s premier entertainment venue. The Music Hall reopened its doors October 1999 after a seven-month, $70 million restoration. The restored theatre sports behind-the-scenes upgrades in sound, lighting and television capabilities. But the real excitement is the Music Hall’s return to its original grandeur as on opening night, 1932. Historians and architects have recreated the fabric that graced the walls in the Grand Foyer decades ago, painstakingly restored is the “Fountain of Youth” mural that adorns the Grand Staircase, and all 5,901 seats have been replaced. Follow the lead of Radio City’s experienced tour guides and explore: the Great Stage, one of the largest indoor performance spaces in the world; the stage’s hydraulic system, still in operation since the 30s; the renowned private suite, with 20’ high gold leaf ceilings and onetime home to Samuel “Roxy” Rothafel; and much more. And as an exciting climax to the Stage Door Tour, guests will meet one of the world-famous Rockettes!
