Leif Ove Andsnes receives 2015 BBC Music Magazine award for Beethoven CD

Norweigian pianist and 1998 Gilmore Artist Leif Ove Andsnes centralized his career around Beethoven for three years. The resulting recording, Volume 2 of the Beethoven Journey on Sony Classical, received the Concerto Award and the Recording of the Year prizes from BBC Music Magazine on Wednesday.

The BBC Music Magazine Awards are chosen based on votes from readers as well as an expert jury of critics. Andsnes will be featured on the cover of BBC Music Magazine in May with an in-depth feature on his Beethoven recording.

Moog CD received Editor’s Choice award

Age is relative for Joseph Moog, the 27 year-old German pianist with eight recordings under his belt. His most recent, a disc of Tchaikovsky and Scharwenka sonatas – Scarlatti Illuminated – received the Editor’s Choice award from Gramophone last year.

“Moog’s fabulous technique enables him to cleanly delineate the Allegro vivace finale… with maximum tutti/solo contrast and minimum tempo adjustment,” the reviewer said.

The German pianist is a two-time winner of the International Classical Music Awards. For his Rising Stars recital at Wellspring Theater on April 19 at 4 PM, Moog will play works by Beethoven, Liszt, Chopin, Fauré and Rubinstein.
