MAYOR GARCETTI ON GOVERNOR BROWN’S SUPPORT OF HOUSING PROGRAMS IN REVISED BUDGET

“Housing is not a privilege for a select few but a right for all. In Los Angeles, we have taken aggressive steps to ease our crisis by increasing overall production, and developing new tools to incentivize the construction and preservation of affordable housing. We have also proposed a bold plan to invest more than $1.8 billion in Los Angeles for homeless programs and services over the next decade focused on getting residents off the streets and into housing immediately. To fund this plan we will leverage every resource at our disposal – but cities alone cannot solve this crisis.
Governor Brown is a strong partner with his efforts to eradicate homelessness here and throughout the state. His support of the “No Place like Home” initiative would bring much-needed resources to help us reach our goal of giving every homeless Angeleno a safe place to call home. In tandem with more resources for housing, we must also prioritize regulation that ensures smart and responsible development and protects the character of our neighborhoods. The Governor’s support of smart development reform initiatives can help local jurisdictions achieve that goal.” – Mayor Eric Garcetti
