MAYOR EMANUEL LAUNCHES SECOND TERM TRANSITION COMMITTEE

Robust Public Process and Community Input Key Components to Transition;

Sarah Pang to Serve as Transition Chair

Mayor Rahm Emanuel today launched a transition committee tasked with engaging residents on a series of key issues and building on the agenda outlined during his campaign. The transition committee’s public process will include multiple venues for public engagement, and some opportunities for direct participation by the mayor and his City Hall leadership team.

“Over the past few months, thousands of Chicagoans have shared their ideas about how to continue creating jobs, improving public education from pre-k through community college, enhancing safety on our streets, and creating a 21st century economy that lifts all Chicagoans in all neighborhoods,” said Mayor Emanuel. “Our transition into a second term, and the issues we prioritize, should be and will be based on those ideas and the conversations we will have with residents in the coming weeks.”

Key issues to be examined by the team and discussed with residents could include expanding full-day pre-k, driving economic growth in our neighborhoods, strengthening neighborhood schools, establishing core protections for working families, expanding investment in public transit, and improving police and community relationships. The transition committee will determine the process to capture the best ideas and strategies to continue investing in Chicago’s children and communities and will deliver a final report in the weeks ahead.

“Engaging residents in a thoughtful discussion about the issues, challenges and opportunities facing communities throughout our city is a crucial component to a successful transition,” said Transition Chair Sarah Pang, a Senior Vice President at CNA Insurance. “Chicago has taken major steps forward during Mayor Emanuel’s first term in office, and with a strong public process we will ensure that our neighborhoods grow even stronger over the next four years.”

The transition committee will be led by a dozen community, business and labor leaders who will work closely with City Hall leadership on the project. They include:

  • Sarah Pang, Transition Chair; Senior Vice President, CNA Insurance
  • Frank Clark, President, Business Leadership Council
  • Forrest Claypool, President, Chicago Transit Authority
  • Gillian Darlow, Chief Executive Officer, Polk Bros. Foundation
  • Deborah Graham, Alderman, 29th Ward
  • Sol Flores, Executive Director, La Casa Norte
  • Dorri McWhorter, Chief Executive Officer, YWCA Metropolitan Chicago
  • David Munar, President and CEO, Howard Brown Health Center
  • Jorge Ramirez, President, Chicago Federation of Labor
  • Juan Salgado, President and CEO, Instituto del Progreso Latino
  • Michael Sacks, Vice Chair, World Business Chicago

    David Spielfogel will serve as Transition Director, and the Civic Consulting Alliance will support the initiative.
