Wednesday, October 7, 2015 // Toronto, ON – Massey Hall is thrilled to announce, on behalf of Hayden Desser and Christie Greyerbiehl, the addition of multiple JUNO Award-winning, Platinum-certified singer Serena Ryder to the lineup for the 2nd Annual Dream Serenade at Massey Hall on Saturday, October 17, 2015.
Dream Serenade, a benefit concert supporting services for children with developmental disabilities, is curated by Toronto songwriter Hayden Desser (who will also be performing) and his wife Christie Greyerbiehl. This year’s lineup will also include sets by Bahamas, Joel Plaskett, Kevin Hearn & Thin Buckle, TUNS (Chris Murphy, Mike O’Neill, Matt Murphy), The Weather Station and Choir! Choir! Choir!
Last year’s inaugural event raised over $100,000 through ticket sales, silent auction earnings and donations with all of the proceeds directed to the Beverley Junior Public School’s new, green, interactive and accessible playground which will break ground this spring. In addition, a Family Relief Fund for respite support for parents and caregivers was created and is now available year-round. Proceeds from this year’s very special evening of music and celebration will again be directed to Toronto area schools and classrooms that support children with special needs, as well as to the Family Relief Fund. In an effort to grow the community reach this year, classrooms or schools with Developmental Disabilities and Physical Disabilities Programs across the TDSB are invited to submit a creative proposal for consideration and are encouraged to inquire through their administration offices for details.
“Last year’s Dream Serenade was such a remarkable event,” says Christie Greyerbiehl. “It brought together the parents, families & caregivers of children with physical and/or developmental disabilities, their teachers and school staff and the broader community in celebration and awareness.” With voices and sounds, we shook the walls of the legendary Massey Hall, commented Hayden. “No one left the building unmoved by the talent on stage, the images on screen, the generosity, and the spirit of the occasion.”
