Organist Ken Double on Historic Wurlitzer Theatre Pipe Organ

(Sarasota, FL) In the final of three 2015 performances, the Manasota Theatre Organ Society (MTOS) is bringing acclaimed organist Ken Double to perform on the historic Wurlitzer theatre organ it owns and maintains in Grace Church, March 15, 2:30 p.m. In addition to the program of solos, Double will accompany vocalist Amy Connours on several well-known songs. Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the door. Performances are held at Grace Church, 8000 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota. President and CEO of the American Theatre Organ Society, Ken Double is a self-proclaimed “broadcaster, musician, entertainer, MC, administrator, and crooner.” Double left a long career in sports broadcasting to become a full-time theater organ champion in 2008 and now performs to sold-out crowds across the country. He says he never forgot a school field trip that first gave him a chance to play a Wurlitzer theater organ — “a WOW moment,” he says. Vocalist Amy Connours enhances the program with her big voice and winning stage presence.
“The grand old theatre organ has one universal purpose,” says John Fischer, president and program chair for MTOS. “It exists to enrich the lives of listeners with the sounds of beautiful music. I’m happy to say, thanks to the work of Manasota Theatre Organ Society, it’s doing exactly that.”

Manasota Theatre Organ Society (MTOS), a branch of the American Theatre Organ Society, was founded in November 1991. Its first project was the renovation of the 1926 Aeolian Duo Art pipe organ in the Charles Ringling Mansion, which is now part of New College of the University of South Florida. MTOS strives to promote the awareness of America’s theater pipe organ heritage and continues to present concerts featuring the 4/32 Wurlitzer theater pipe organ located at Grace Church in Sarasota.
