LUKE BURLAND JOINS BRIAN BUMBERY AT BB GUN PRESS
Friends and Former Warner Bros. Records Publicity Executives Reunite as Partners And Usher In New Era for Los Angeles Independent PR Company
April 4, 2016 – (Los Angeles, CA) – BB Gun Press founder Brian Bumbery announces that longtime publicity executive Luke Burland has joined the Los Angeles-based company as a partner.
The two first met in 2002 when Burland hired Bumbery away from his independent PR company to join her team at the Warner Bros. Records Publicity department, where she served as Senior Vice President of Publicity for 14 years. There Bumbery and the British-born Burland became fast friends and developed the palpable personal chemistry that they bring to every project they undertake. Both are well-known in the industry for their larger-than-life personalities, fierce loyalty to their clients, and innovative approach to creating publicity campaigns.
“When I first met Luke we were both wearing camouflage pants, pink belts, and white T-shirts,” Bumbery says. “As our relationship progressed, we realized we’re both Libras, our mothers have the same birthdays (June 10th), our significant others (William), grandmothers (Peggy), and brothers (James) have the same name and we both have the same droopy eye (we’re not telling which). It was clearly meant to be. But in all seriousness, I couldn’t be more excited. Luke has always and will continue to be an incredible partner. We share the same vision and enthusiasm for the jobs that we do, she is the best in the business, and her insane work ethic is beyond inspiring.”
“I could not be more thrilled to be partnering up with Brian,” Burland says. “Both professionally and personally he is a force to be reckoned with and puts his devotion to his artists above all. He is both interested and interesting and you can’t ask for more than that in a business partner and bestie. In the words of the late, great Francine ‘Peaches’ Barker and her partner Herb Fame: ‘Reunited and it feels so good.'”
Burland formed her singular aesthetic and pop-culture savvy while growing up in the ’80s in London where she developed a passion for music, fashion, and photography. Burland moved to the U.S. in 1990 where she launched her career working in the LA office for the UK’s #1 PR company Laister Dickson. There she cut her cloth handling press for Aerosmith, The Cult, and The Three Tenors, among others. In 1995, Burland moved to New York City to work with Kathy Schenker’s publicity firm KSA, where she continued to represent Aerosmith and Janet Jackson, and also oversaw the public images of many of the major music stars of the ’90s, including Sheryl Crow, No Doubt, Matchbox 20, and Lenny Kravitz. Burland was also instrumental in breaking such newcomers as Fiona Apple, Macy Gray, and The Wallflowers. Impressed by Burland’s achievements and reputation among journalists, editors, and artists alike, Warner Bros. Records’ then-CEO Tom Whalley lured Burland back to Los Angeles in 2002 to run his label’s publicity department. As Senior Vice President of Publicity, Burland immediately set to work putting together a stellar team, which included Bumbery. For the next 14 years she worked diligently to create top notch publicity campaigns for both burgeoning new acts and many of music’s biggest icons.
Over the past five years Bumbery has built BB Gun Press from the ground up, continuing to work with many artists from his days at Warner Bros. Records, while adding an impressive array of iconic artists to the company’s roster. The company has also begun working with various corporate clients to support their marketing activations in the music and entertainment space. It also works regularly with non-profit organizations on various philanthropic endeavors. Bumbery and Burland look forward to exploring new horizons together with their team at BB Gun Press.
