Longboat Key Vice Mayor Jack Duncan will not seek a third and final term and has announced he is stepping down in March 2015.
In a letter sent last Sunday to Mayor Jim Brown and his fellow Commissioners, Duncan said the decision followed “hours of soul searching and long discussions with family and friends.”
When Dorothy Mikula left CVS with her medicine at 9:30 a.m. on July 9, she left behind her red wallet containing $160. It was through video and teamwork that the Longboat Key Police recovered all of her property within two days.
On July 8, Longboat Key Police arrested Charles Griffith, 53, for burglary at a home on Buttonwood Drive. The home was unoccupied at the time of the burglary, and the Police Department was informed by the homeowner who was in Michigan at the time of the burglary.
The homeowner, Martin Rometsch, happened to be watching his video security system online from his computer, and noticed a man enter the Longboat home through the rear sliding glass door. Rometsch then called Longboat Key Police.
