Little Grey Hat Productions and Manatee Players Hold Auditions for COPENHAGEN by Michael Frayn

Sunday, May 17th 2015, in the Bradenton Kiwanis Theater at Manatee Performing Arts Center from 4pm – 7pm

Little Grey Hat Productions and the Manatee Players are producing the Tony-Award winning drama Copenhagen by Michael Frayn. The play is set in a nebulous “atomic afterlife,” where physicists Neils Bohr and Werner Heisenberg can finally dissect the conversation they secretly had in 1941 regarding atomic power and whether or not the Nazis would acquire it. This is the first time the play has ever been produced in the area, with three roles available:

WERNER HEISENBERG – 30-40, a passionate and brilliant German physicist caught between his desire to unravel the mysteries of the atom and the need to keep that knowledge out of the hands of the Third Reich. Energetic, tragically driven, but misses the small details in his haste.

NEILS BOHR – 40-60, an older, wise but stubborn Danish physicist whose original research laid the groundwork for most future endeavors in theoretical physics, and therefore the development of nuclear fission. Haunted by the end result of his work and the lives it took.

MARGRETHE BOHR – 40-60, Neils’ wife, an observant, compassionate participant in the conversation between the two men, often providing context for the audience as the least scientifically-minded of the three. Mourns the deaths of her sons and saddened by the falling out between Heisenberg and Neils.

COPENHAGEN will rehearse 5 nights a week beginning in late May through early July. Directed by Heiko Knipfelberg. Performances will be July 9th – 19th. Tickets and further details available on the Manatee Players website at www.manateeperformingartscenter.com.
