Lifelong Learning Academy Announces
Fall 2014 Semester
September 29-November 20 § Registration begins August 19
The fall semester runs September 29 through November 20 and offers more than 50 courses in a variety of subjects, including literature, the arts, history, current affairs, science, psychology, health and wellbeing, technology, and languages.
(Sarasota-Manatee, Florida) “Quiet the Mind, Relieve Stress, Find Peace with Meditation,” American Biographies: The People Who Made The History,” “Miami and Mayan Architecture,” What Wall Street Doesn’t Want You to Know,” and “From Farm to Fork: Why What We Eat Matters.” This is only a sampling of the 50+ in-depth courses offered this fall by the Lifelong Learning Academy (LLA), September 29-November 20. Courses are primarily offered on the campus of the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee (USFSM). Classes are also offered at KobernickAnchin Benderson in Sarasota, and Westminster Towers & Shores in Bradenton. Classes range from two to eight sessions to accommodate those who travel.Course costs range from $30 to $75. Registration begins on August 19. Janna Overstreet is Lifelong Learning Academy’s executive director. Education that lasts a lifetime is both her passion and profession. “Our academy sets the standard other educational organizations follow,” she says. Overstreet praises LLA, celebrating its 15th anniversary, for, “creating intellectual and cultural stimulation in an informal, supportive atmosphere. Our students experience lively discussions promoting personal growth and social engagement. It’s a true meeting of the minds.” She adds that LLA’s instructors come from, “the top of their fields,” and include CEOs of major companies, professional artists, writers and photographers, experts in science and medical research, and educators from renowned universities and colleges.” Overstreet describes the Sarasota-Manatee region as, “a mecca for lifelong learners. This is definitely the place to be if you want to continue to grow and experience an active retirement.”
Lifelong Learning Academy was recently recognized with WEDU’s “Be More Empowered Award.” The award recognizes a small nonprofit that best demonstrates the truth in the statement that “big things come in small packages.”
Lifelong Learning Academy offers four course terms per year on the USFSM campus, at 8350 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota.
