Legendary impressionist Rich Little brings one-man show, “Jimmy Stewart & Friends”, to Venice Theatre’s MainStage March 2 & 3, 2014
(Venice, FL) Rich Little is alive and well and bringing his Las Vegas show about the life of Jimmy Stewart to Venice Theatre’s MainStage. Audiences have three chances to catch his performance: Sunday, March 2 at 8 p.m.; Monday, March 3 at 3 p.m.; and Monday, March 3 at 8 p.m. Limited seats are available for this premier special event. Tickets are $49 and are available at the theatre’s box office, by phone at 941-488-1115 and online at www.venicestage.com.
Often referred to as “The Man of a Thousand Voices”, Little might not appear on television as often as he did during his heyday in the 1970s, but he has never stopped performing and he continues to inspire new generations of comedians. In a New York Times article about Little’s new show, Darrell Hammond was quoted as saying, “I’ve studied him for a long time and I think there are a couple reasons that he’s the best that ever lived. Impressionists say about certain voices, ‘I can do it because it’s in my range.’ Well Rich Little is range-less. Most great impressionists can do 10 or 20 great impressions. He can do 100, or 200. I can’t even wrap my head around that.”
Little resides in Las Vegas where he originated his new show that he hopes to bring to Broadway. “Jimmy Stewart & Friends” is a hybrid of biographical theater and comedy that tells the story of that beloved actor’s life, as voiced by Mr. Little, with vocal cameos by dozens of luminaries who crossed Stewart’s path. In the course of 75 minutes Mr. Little does about 30 impressions (including Cary Grant, George Burns, Ronald Reagan, Katharine Hepburn and John Wayne) and tells about twice that number of jokes. Little says, “In addition to being my first celebrity impression, Jimmy Stewart was a dear friend and a life-long inspiration of mine.”
Again, audiences can see Rich Little in “Jimmy Stewart & Friends” Sunday, March 2, 2014 at 8 p.m. and Monday, March 3, 2014 at 3 and 8 p.m. All seats are $49 and are available at the box office, by phone at 941-488-1115 and online at www.venicestage.com. Venice Theatre is located at 140 W. Tampa Ave. on the island in Venice. Box office hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and one hour before all performances.
