October 31, 2017 – Los Angeles, CA – Singer-songwriter Kylie Hughes is adding Director to her resume with the release of her self-directed music video for “Leave It Alone,” premiering exclusively today on PopCrush. The spooky video takes Kylie out of her comfort zone and into a dark and edgy mystery land full of creative surprises at every turn. Check out the video PopCrush calls a “Halloween dream” here.
On the intense creative process, Hughes shared, “I’ve been reflecting nonstop since we’ve wrapped on what a project this particular video was for me, personally and artistically. This is my first real stab at directing and taking 100% control of my vision. This video was completely all of MY hands on deck. I’m directing, set designing, art directing and performing in 95% of the shots.”
Although this is her first self-directed video, Kylie is no stranger to creative visuals, having released a tribute to cult-classic Talladega Nights with the music video for “Heat,” which premiered exclusively with Huffington Post. These infectious tracks come from Kylie’s self-titled album, released earlier this year. Kylie split her time between Nashville and Los Angeles, crafting a collection of songs that bring fans through the highs and lows of her life, showing an artist deeply rooted in knowing exactly what she wants. Working with top-notch producers like Ben Jaffe, Mike Shimshack, Mark McKee, Brent Bourgeois, and Brandon Friesen, Kylie Hughes bares it all on her self-titled album. “This album is 100% authentically me,” Kylie remarked, “For the first time I’m really, really proud of what I’ve created and curated.”
On the album, Myspace lauded Kylie saying, “While few musicians are open to accepting change, Kylie Hughes eagerly welcomes it, pushing herself beyond her comfort zone and reaching heights of musical ingenuity she never thought possible.” Impose Magazine echoed those sentiments sharing “This album is some of her best work yet…her unique flare really shines in this new album.”
Starting at the age of 12, Kylie has always been writing and recording music. Her debut EP, 2014’s Calipopicana, earned her fans and critics, landing features in Examiner, Good Day LA, K-CAL TV 9, InStyle.com, Music Connection and more. Kylie’s contagious, spontaneous energy has led to performances alongside the likes of The Beach Boys, John Mayer, Jewel and Michael W. Smith – Just to name a few – as well as performance opportunities like her most recent run at SXSW 2017. Unwritten remarked that, “Kylie isn’t afraid to sound different from her fellow female artists. She stands out from the crowd – which is a necessity in today’s world of music.”
