July 1: Between the Scenes presented Class Acts
After spending four weeks developing an original show with their teacher Preston Boyd, our “Between the Scenes” class just shared a wonderful piece of theatre featuring a variety of songs, monologues and skits.

July 5: All single tickets go on sale
Set your alarms for Tuesday at 10 a.m. when tickets for all of our 2016-2017 shows go on sale. You can buy online, call the box office at 941-488-1115 or stop by 140 W. Tampa Ave. in person. We’ll be ready for you! And remember, this season there are no added charges. No matter how you buy, you get the same low price.
We’re excited about all of this season’s shows. A few highlights: Billy Elliot, The Alter Eagles, Sister Act, Capitol Steps, Frost/Nixon, Blood Brothers, and Inherit the Wind. You won’t find this variety at any other theatre!

July 7 & 8 at 8 p.m. – Syreeta Banks presents Broadway Soul
Our favorite powerhouse vocalist opens the 4th Annual Summer Cabaret Festival with her show Broadway Soul. You might remember her from Smokey Joe’s Café, Crowns, Hair or as the featured vocalist in The Lion King at Animal Kingdom.
In this show she’ll sing songs from Broadway shows and songs from artists she grew up listening to.
She’ll cover everything from R&B and soul to gospel, pop, rock and jazz.

July 9 at 8 p.m. | July 10 at 2 p.m. – John Russo presents his Rat Pack Tribute
John is the definition of a classic entertainer, offering his heart and soul through music. Wade Tatangelo of the Herald-Tribune calls him “The Gifted Crooner” and Linda Carson of ABC 7 has dubbed John “Our Favorite Suncoast Singer.”
With hundreds of songs in his repertoire, this cabaret will focus on ones made popular by Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop.

July 14 & 15 at 8 p.m. – Kristofer Geddie presents Back to Before
Back to Before features highlights of stage, screen, and radio. Kris will bring the past to life through his eyes, with the reverent and not-so-reverent. His set list includes songs from The Eagles, Styx, Queen, Miss Saigon, Once on This Island, Ragtime and more!

Robin Fernandez presents Barbra & Frank at the Movies
Robin Fernandez honors iconic singers/movie stars Barbra Streisand and Frank Sinatra with a variety of signature movie songs and stories of their illustrious lives. You’ll hear “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” “I Could Write A Book,” “Just One of Those Things,” “Somewhere,” “Before the Parade Passes By,” “People” and more.

July 17 at 8 p.m. – Dorian and The Furniture
Now a staple of the Summer Cabaret Festival, our resident sound designer is back for one night only of his special brand of mellow rock ‘n’ roll.

2-week camp for grades 1 & 2
Theatre fun for the little ones! Children will rotate between singing, dancing, creative dramatics, and technical theatre. There will be a class demonstration for family and friends on the last day of camp.

July 21 – Aug. 7: SummerStock presents Peter Pan
The boy who would not grow up visits the Darling children and takes them on a magical adventure to Never-Never Land in this beloved musical version of the classic play.

July 21 & 22 at 8 p.m. – Michelle Kasanofsky presents Nobody Puts Baby in a Corner
Venice Theatre’s music director extraordinaire is back, this time with two special guest stars from her family: multi-instrumentalists George Mancini and Mikal Mancini. The talented trio (along with drummer Joel Broome) will perform jazz standards like “S’Wonderful,” “Someone To Watch Over Me,” “All of Me” and “Over the Rainbow” along with blues, rock, funk and Motown.

July 22 & 23 at 11 p.m. – Sinning Sirens Burlesque
Sinning Sirens is a unique burlesque experience featuring live vocals, a live band, and mixed styles. Let their sirens RubyyJean, Karma Kandlewick, Ginger Holliday and Ira Clementine, seduce and tease, live on-stage with old Tinseltown charm. Raise a glass with emcees Chief Peach and Pugz Magoo, assisted by tantalizing stage kittens and Toez. They might just share a nightcap with you, maybe.

Lyn Purmort presents Music from Around the World
Founding member of the popular local singing group “Vocal Vixens”, Lyn takes a tuneful journey with musical partner and cosmopolitan co-star Bob Constantino. No need to travel this summer when you can visit the streets of Paris, London, Rome, Latin America and the good old USA, all in one show! The duo’s international set list includes “I Love Paris,” “A Foggy Day,” “Bali H’ai,” “Brazil” and “Route 66”.

A Sentimental Journey with Matthew M. Ryder
Hailing from Maine, Matthew jumped into the area theatre scene this season to rave reviews as George in She Loves Me and George in La Cage aux Folles at The Players in Sarasota. Matthew is a teacher, director, and performer with other recent credits such as Jesus in Godspell, Horton in Seussical, Jerry in The Full Monty, and Curly in Oklahoma!
His cabaret will include songs by Stephen Schwartz, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Irving Berlin, Lerner and Loewe, Eubie Blake, and David Yazbek.

Venice song-and-dance man Eric Watters returns with a new selection of songs, fascinating facts, and history.
