Clips and Conversation about Their New Film

 Mon, Jul 21, 8 pm

NEW YORK, July 10—What’s better than a new film with Wallace Shawn and André Gregory, the stars of cult favorites like My Dinner with André and Vanya on 42nd Street? How about a new film with Wallace Shawn and André Gregory directed by Jonathan Demme? 92Y welcomes all three, along with actor Lisa Joyce, to discuss their latest project – an update of Henrik Ibsen’s The Master Builder, the modern classic about a successful, egomaniacal architect who has spent a lifetime bullying his wife, employees and mistresses. Now he wants to make peace with himself and those around him as his life approaches its final act.

92Y’s evening includes clips from the film and a discussion about how Shawn translated Ibsen’s play (despite not knowing Norwegian), how Gregory created his legendary theatrical production of it, how Demme came to direct the project and how Lisa Joyce tackled her key role in the film.
