“CATCH ME IF YOU CAN”

Sarasota, FL — Beginning on March 18th and continuing through April 4, The Players Theatre will take you on a high-flying musical ride of truth, lies and chasing your dreams while not getting caught. Based on the Dreamworks hit film directed by Steven Spielberg and the incredible true story, Catch Me If You Can is a big and bright spectacle with high-energy dance numbers and a riveting story. Nominated for 4 TONY awards, including Best Musical, this delightfully entertaining show was created by a TONY Award-winning “dream team”, with a book by Terrence McNally (The Full Monty, Ragtime) and a swinging score by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray). A majority of the plot is borrowed from the 2002 film of the same name, which in turn was based on Abagnale’s 1980 autobiography.

Story: Seeking fame and fortune, precocious teenager Frank Abignale, Jr. runs away from home to begin an unforgettable adventure. With nothing more than his boyish charm, a big imagination and millions of dollars in forged checks, Frank successfully poses as a pilot, a doctor and a lawyer – living the high life and winning the girl of his dreams. But when Frank’s lies catch the attention of FBI agent Carl Hanratty, Carl chases Frank across the country and to the end…and finds something he never expected.

Catch Me If You Can is an area first and boasts a large cast of incredible talent. “There’s an inherent theatricality to the movie Catch Me If You Can” explains Artistic Director, Jeffery Kin. “…A great story, exciting characters and lots of beautiful ladies. No wonder it became a great big brassy Broadway Show with great songs, huge dance routines and a 1960s flavor that would make the Rat Pack drool. This area premiere is going to knock the socks off of everyone who attends…and we are excited to bring it to the local stage for the first time!”

Originally produced on Broadway by Margo Lion and Hal Luftig, Variety Magazine said the show had “The best new music on Broadway.” Don’t miss this big-hearted musical adventure based on the astonishing real-life story of being young, in love… and in deep, deep trouble!
