“I always knew Tom Petty’s ‘American Girl’ as a happy classic song, so when Jay Levine and I sat down and dissected it a bit it was surprising to find this kind of sadness,” the singer-songwriter shared. “There seemed to be such an innocence about it, which now reads as a poignant contrast to the world as we now know it.”
Launched on International Women’s Day, Instant Love kickstart a dialogue about unity and empowerment, led by female artists who are unafraid of breaking the boundaries of the status quo. With each new song, the project aims to highlight women’s unique voices and perspectives, and celebrate of the power of love between women, mothers, sisters, friends, lovers and everything in between.
Instant Love, in partnership with The Orchard, will release a new song every two weeks with an impactful female vocalist from across genres alongside original artwork by Rebecca Morehiser.
