Los Angeles – January 30, 2017 – HDNET MOVIES celebrates Black History Month with a night of acclaimed films starring the first two African-Americans to win the Academy Award for Best Actor, in “The A-List: Sidney Poitier and Denzel Washington” on Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 7pE.
The event begins with Washington as a young policeman caught in a tricky predicament when his childhood friend is accused of robbery and murder in THE MIGHTY QUINN followed by Washington as a determined father who takes a hospital emergency room hostage when his insurance won’t cover his son’s heart transplant in JOHN Q at 8:45pE.
The tribute continues with Poitier in the historic performance that earned him his first Oscar®, starring as a construction worker who helps Catholic nuns build a church in the desert in LILIES OF THE FIELD at 10:50pE. Then at 12:30aE Poitier and Tony Curtis star as rival inmates on the lam, who must put their disdain aside and work together to elude the police in Oscar®-winning 1958 drama THE DEFIANT ONES. The evening comes to a close with Poitier as a prison psychiatrist assigned to an inmate (Bobby Darin) with Nazi tendencies in PRESSURE POINT, with Peter Falk, at 2:10aE.
