GuitarSarasota Presents Anton Baranov, Russian Guitarist in the 9th Annual International Guitar Concert Season
GuitarSarasota is proud to present Anton Baranov, Russian classical guitarist on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 7:30pm at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Sarasota, 3975 Fruitville Road in Sarasota, Florida 34232. Tickets are $25 for GuitarSarasota members and $30 for non-members and can be purchased online at guitarsarasota.org until noon on January 24, 2015. All remaining tickets are available at the door on January 24 from 7pm, cash or check only, credit cards can not be accepted. Student rush tickets are purchased at the door for $5, fifteen minutes prior to the beginning of the concert with current student ID. A short reception follows the concert to honor Anton Baranov and complimentary hors d’oeuvres and refreshments generously provided by founding sponsor, Mattison’s Restaurants & Catering.
Russian guitarist Anton Baranov is the prize-winner of more then 15 prestigious international guitar competitions, including the Koblenz Guitar Competition, Andrés Segovia Competition, Agustín Barrios Competitio, Robert Vidal Competition, and Pittaluga Guitar Competition. In 2013, he won both the Guitar Foundation of America’s (GFA)International Concert Artist Competition and the Francisco Tárrega Competition. Guitarist and composer Roland Dyens, known for his daring interpretation and innovative programming, calls Mr Baranov, “a real musician, one of those rare guitarists who are able to have their attendees almost forget the instrument they play, managing to have them focus on the expressivity of the music and only this.” As part of his prize from winning the Guitar Foundation of America competition, Mr. Baranov embarks on a 50-city concert tour throughout the United States, Mexico, Canada, and Brazil, and has recently recorded his first album on the Naxos label. Mr. Baranov is a D’Addario artist since 2013 and currently teaches at his alma mater, the St. Petersburg Conservatory. Born in 1984 in the Northwest region of Russia, Anton Baranov graduated from the famous St. Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in 2010 under grants from the Russian Ministry of Culture and the Russian Performing Arts Foundation.
GuitarSarasota’s annual membership is open to all who are interested in the guitar and prices start at $20 for individuals. GuitarSarasota’s members receive discounts on concert tickets (including tickets for all guest), an email newsletter, and the benefit of supporting a respected local non-profit arts organization. GuitarSarasota is a non-profit organization promoting the education, appreciation and cultural significance of the classical guitar as a solo and chamber music instrument.
