GUITARIST JIJI ON FEBRUARY 13:

First Korean female guitarist to perform solo at Carnegie Hall

Concert Artists Guild announces that lii.L First Prize Winner of the 2016 CAG Competition, will become the first Korean female guitarist to perform solo at Carnegie Hall with her Weill Recital Hall debut on Tuesday, February 13 at 7:30pm.

Jiji will perform works by Steve Reich, J. S. Bach, Ginastera, and Leo Brouwer, as well as the premiere of a new work for electric guitar and electronics, Dimmar Oldur Rfsa (Dim waves rise) by Icelandic guitarist and composer Gulli Bjornsson. Jiji will also perform Tread Lightly for You Tread on My Dreams, a 2008 work by her former teacher at the Yale University School of Music, Ben Verdery, and Arvo Part’s Fratres with fellow CAG artists the Argus Quartet (featuring violist Nick Revel from PUBLIQuartet) and bassist Erez Meyuhass.

Applauded by the Calgary Herald as “…talented, sensitive…brilliant,” Korean guitarist Jiji is an adventurous artist on both acoustic and electric guitar. She has performed with the Kansas City Symphony and Tanglewood Chamber Orchestra, and in recitals at Carnegie Hall, Mass MOCA and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Her performances have been featured on PBS, NPR’s From The Top and Hong Kong’s RTHK. Jiji entered the Curtis Institute of Music as one of the first two guitarists in its distinguished history and recently earned her Master of Music degree from the Yale School of Music.

Since 1951, Concert Artists Guild has helped more than 500 young musicians launch concert careers. Winners of CAG’s annual competition receive comprehensive management support, including a debut recital on the CAG Presents Series at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, concert bookings, opportunities through the CAG Commissioning Program and CAG Records label, marketing, publicity, and mentorship. Notable alumni artists include violinists Ani Kavafian and Jennifer Koh, soprano Martina Arroyo, pianist Barry Douglas, clarinetists David Krakauer and David Shifrin, flutists Carol Wincenc and Marina Piccinini, lmani Winds, Grammy-winning ensembles Eighth Blackbird, Pacifica and Parker String Quartets and MacArthur Fellow Claire Chase.
