GREEN DAY’S REVOLUTION RADIO IS NO. 1 ON BILLBOARD TOP 200 ALBUM CHART
ALBUM MARKS MULTI-PLATINUM BAND’S THIRD
NO. 1 ALBUM
REVOLUTION RADIO TOPS THE CHARTS IN SEVEN COUNTRIES AROUND THE WORLD
October 17, 2016 – (Los Angeles, CA) – Revolution Radio – the twelfth studio album from Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees and Grammy Award-winning rock band Green Day – has entered the Billboard Top 200 Album chart at No. 1 with 97,000 in album sales and streaming equivalent albums.
This is the multi-platinum band’s third No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart. Green Day previously topped the album chart with 21st Century Breakdown in 2009 and American Idiot in 2004.
Revolution Radio will also mark the band’s tenth Top 10 album, stretching back to its breakthrough album Dookie, which peaked at No. 2 in 1995.
In addition to the United States, Revolution Radio also topped the chart in six countries around the world including the United Kingdom, Canada, Italy, Ireland, New Zealand and Mexico.
Produced by Green Day and recorded in Oakland, Revolution Radio is a potent 12-track blitz of angst-ridden anthems that unites Green Day’s fully formed stylistic approach with lyrical themes that address the complexities and uncertainties of modern day existence. Musically, the album is raw, visceral, and fearless — solidifying the band’s reign as one of the leading voices in rock music.
Revolution Radio was praised by Alternative Press: “The most intensely personal Green Day album in years,” Entertainment Weekly: “Their most focused album in years,” LA Times: “A barnstormer of a new punk record,” Nylon: “…delivers in terms of music, lyrics, and an unstoppable and quintessentially Green Day energy,” Q: “Revolution Radio is Green Day back at their best,” Rolling Stone: “It reflects decades of accrued emotional and musical wisdom,” USA Today: “A bracing return to form,” and many more.
The band is currently on the road for a series of intimate club shows in the U.S. in support of
Revolution Radio. They will kick off their 2017 Revolution Radio North American Tour in March. Visit www.greenday.com for a complete list of dates.
