CULVER CITY, CA – April 7, 2016 – getTV is proud to present the network premiere of the newly-restored 1937 Columbia Pictures musical WHEN YOU’RE IN LOVE, starring beloved leading man Cary Grant and Golden Age songstress Grace Moore, on Friday, May 6 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. This is the first time ever that the restored version will air on broadcast television.
WHEN YOU’RE IN LOVE stands out as one of Cary Grant’s earliest comedic roles, starring as Jimmy Hudson, a poor artist who can’t leave Mexico until he can pay his hotel bill. Caught in a similar conundrum is Louise, (Grace Moore) an Australian opera singer deported to Mexico after her American work visa expires. Desperate to re-enter the States, Louise’s manager offers Jimmy $2,000 to marry Louise, seemingly solving both of their problems instantly. Things begin to get complicated, however, when feelings of true love begin to blossom between the bickering pair.
The film is helmed by Oscar®-winning Frank Capra collaborator Robert Riskin in his directorial debut, and boasts breezy song-and-dance numbers highlighted by a pair of standards written by legendary composer Jerome Kern and trailblazing lyricist Dorothy Fields, as well as a spicy rendition of Cab Calloway’s trademark hit “Minnie The Moocher.”
