(Sarasota, FL) —FST is pleased to announce the final extension of the longest running Cabaret show in FST history, American Pie. The show is now extended through May 10, completing a record-breaking 19 week run. Single tickets are $32-$36 and may be purchased online at FloridaStudioTheatre.org, by phone at (941) 366-9000, or by visiting the Box Office.
American Pie will close after 158 performances, surpassing the preceding audience favorite, Dancing in the Street which closed after 151 performances. Co-writer of the show and FST Managing Director, Rebecca Hopkins reflects on the record-breaking run of this revue stating, “American Pie has been one of those very special shows where everything clicks and things progress to a whole new level. It is amazing to me how much this music holds resonance with almost everybody. Different generations come to it in different ways – For some people in our audience it takes them back to when their kids were young. For others, it is the music that defined their generation. Then there are those for which this music has always been the soundtrack for the American guitar artist.”
Playing to packed houses night after night, the cast of American Pie continues to delight audiences with their vibrant and versatile performance. Each cast member dawns multiple instruments and takes on a variety of vocal ranges throughout the show. Audiences have raved about their talents describing the show as, “A marvelous time,” “Spectacular,” and “Fabulous.” Critics have agreed when describing this ode to original guitar theatre. The Observer said it is, “A slice of sixties song served hot.” The Venice Gondolier says it is “Lively…and richly entertaining.”
Hopkins expresses her own personal connection to the songs of these artists stating, “I can’t imagine the world without this music. I heard these songs from my cradle. They take me back to different points in my life. I think much like each generation discovers the Beatles, everyone has their own personal story around Don McLean’s ‘American Pie.’ The artists in this show are amazing. It has been a joyful ride and I look forward to continuing it.”
Celebrating a record-breaking 19 week run, American Pie is now extended through May 10 in the Goldstein Cabaret. Single tickets are $32-$36 and may be purchased online at FloridaStudioTheatre.org, by phone at (941) 366-9000, or by visiting the Box Office.
About Florida Studio Theatre
Known as Sarasota’s Contemporary Theatre, Florida Studio Theatre was founded in 1973 by Jon Spelman. Starting out as a small touring company, FST traveled to places such as migrant camps and prisons. The company then acquired the former Woman’s Club building, becoming the first permanent venue. Shortly after Richard Hopkins arrived, the building was purchased and renamed The Keating Theatre. In the years that followed, Florida Studio Theatre established itself as a major force in American Theatre, presenting contemporary theatre in its five theatre venues: the Keating Theatre, the Gompertz Theatre, the Parisian style Goldstein Cabaret and John C. Court Cabaret, and Bowne’s Lab Theatre.
Even with its growth, Florida Studio Theatre remains firmly committed to making the arts accessible and affordable to a broad-based audience. FST develops theatre that speaks to our living, evolving, and dynamically changing world. As FST grows and expands, it continues to provide audiences with challenging, contemporary drama and innovative programs.
