The current show Out of Bounds will be joined on weekends with another show, Life’s A Beach on Friday nights. Performances will be held every Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm. Full menu and bar are available. Doors open one hour prior to the show. Tickets are $15 per show, or a Friday and Saturday show can be purchased for $25, OR improv lovers can purchase any 5 improv shows for just $50. The leaves have fallen off the trees and snow is beginning to coat our world… wait just kidding this is Florida, and the lowest it gets is 40 degrees. Therefore the new show on Friday nights is entitled Life’s A Beach. From snowbirds to roundabouts, this revue style show will feature sketches, musicals, and our favorite classic improv games. Poking fun at what makes Sarasota Sarasota by using audience suggestions, improvisers will truly show us just why life here is ‘just a beach.’ Alongside the Friday addition of Life’s A Beach is returning audience favorite Out of Bounds Match-Up. No rules, no boundaries, just great improv where two teams duke it out to see who can create the most laughs.

Director of Improv, Will Luera, shared his anticipation of what this new season of improv has in store for audiences. “What I want audiences to know is that Improv at FST is sometimes silly, but it can also

be satirical, honest, surreal, naughty, observational, shticky, or poignant. On any given night you might see our cast doing a scene where they’re acting like puppets on a first date followed by a scene making fun of traffic jams or local politics – whatever it is, it’s designed to entertain.”

Back for another season of witty weekend hilarity are returning cast members: Will Luera, Christine Alexander, Patrick A. Jackson, Joey James, Darryl Knapp, Emily Levin, Katelyn McKelley, Angel Parker, Adam Ratner, and Steve Turrisi. New cast members have joined the FST Improv troupe after auditions were held last week and include: Larry Bukovey, Joey Panek, and Natasha Samreny.

There is a certain amount of cast bonding that helps to foster those funny moments on stage each night. Returning cast member, Patrick A. Jackson talks about his excitement for the new cast members and his innate love for everything improvised, “I am extremely excited to have new performers join the troupe. Sitting in auditions and seeing a variety of improvisers – talented local performers, and those who have learned the ropes in FST’s improv classes was such an amazing experience. I am ready to ‘make the funny’ with them this season – anything can happen. We don’t know what games we’re playing or who is going to be on stage in the game. We have to trust the audience and live in the moment. We have to truly…play.”

FST Improv performances of Life’s A Beach will begin on January 30 and run every Friday @ 7:30pm. While returning Out of Bounds Match-up will continue running every Saturday night @ 7:30pm. Doors open at 6:30pm and full menu and bar are available. Tickets are $15 per show, or a Friday and Saturday show can be purchased for $25, OR improv lovers can purchase any 5 improv shows for just $50. About Florida Studio Theatre

Known as Sarasota’s Contemporary Theatre, Florida Studio Theatre was founded in 1973 by Jon Spelman. Starting out as a small touring company, FST traveled to places such as migrant camps and prisons. The company then acquired the former Woman’s Club building, becoming the first permanent venue. Shortly after Richard Hopkins arrived, the building was purchased and renamed The Keating Theatre. In the years that followed, Florida Studio Theatre established itself as a major force in American Theatre, presenting contemporary theatre in its five theatre venues: the Keating Theatre,  the Gompertz Theatre, the Parisian style Goldstein Cabaret and John C. Court Cabaret,  and Bowne’s Lab Theatre.

Even with its growth, Florida Studio Theatre remains firmly committed to making the arts accessible and affordable to a broad-based audience.  FST develops theatre that speaks to our living, evolving, and dynamically changing world.  As FST grows and expands, it continues to provide audiences with challenging, contemporary drama and innovative programs.
