STS9
REVEAL FALL HEADLINING TOUR DATES
IN SUPPORT OF
NEW STUDIO ALBUM
‘THE UNIVERSE INSIDE’
OUT FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 2
NEW YORK CITY TOUR CLOSING SHOW
CONFIRMED FOR NOVEMBER 12
AT TERMINAL 5
Following the official announcement that their new album, THE UNIVERSE INSIDE–the band’s first new full-length studio album in nearly seven years–is coming September 2, acclaimed electronic rock band STS9 has now revealed dates for a fall headlining tour in its support. STS9 will bring their expansive sound, innovative style combining the energy of 21st century dance music with the dynamics of a band, one-of-a-kind critically acclaimed production and message of unity to audiences throughout the Midwest and East Coast this October and November.
Kicking off October 20 in Minneapolis, STS9—Hunter Brown (guitar/sequences), Jeffree Lerner (percussion), David Phipps (keyboards/synths), Zach Velmer (drums) and Alana Rocklin (bass)–will stop in Madison, Detroit, Columbus, Louisville, Memphis, Athens, Nashville, Knoxville, Asheville, Charlottesville, Norfolk, Washington, DC and Philadelphia before wrapping November 12 at New York City’s Terminal 5. Sandwiched between their headlining dates, the quintet will spend Halloween weekend performing at the Voodoo Music + Arts Experience in New Orleans and Suwannee Hulaween in Live Oak, FL. Citi® Cardmember Presale tickets for the band’s headlining dates go on sale Tuesday, August 23 with Live Nation Presales starting Wednesday, August 24 and Public On-Sale commencing Friday, August 26; all beginning at 10:00 AM local time daily. See below for full list of upcoming tour dates.
The newly announced dates come on the heels of STS9’s upcoming doubleheader in Atlanta this weekend, where the band performs their 30th sold-out show at the majestic Tabernacle this Friday, August 26 followed by a headlining three set show at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park on Saturday, August 27 featuring a set of the band’s legendary “Axe the Cables,” in which STS9 performs in “acoustic” form. Another touring milestone will be reached Friday, September 9 and Saturday, September 10 when STS9 performs for the 14th consecutive year at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, marking their 20th performance at the famed Colorado venue.
THE UNIVERSE INSIDE will be released via their own 1320 Records on Friday, September 2. The 13-track album continues their stylistic exploration in the studio, which is notable on the lead single “Get Loud,” a collaboration with singer/songwriter Betty Idol and acclaimed production team the J.U.S.T.I.CE. League. Envisioned as a throwback from the future, the song is an ode to the musicians and producers that STS9 grew up loving. Like much of the band’s work, it features a rallying cry disguised as a dance hook. The lyrics are a call to “let it lift you up,” “say it proud,” and stand up for justice and civil rights. THE UNIVERSE INSIDE opens with “Supercluster,” which samples the original NASA STS-9 radio transmission and represents the band’s return from a journey that began with their 1998 debut, Interplanetary Escape Vehicle. The first words that are heard are a shout-out to STS9‘s home, and muse, California. Watch and listen HERE. THE UNIVERSE INSIDE–which was written, recorded, produced and mixed by the band at their own 1320 Mission Control in Santa Cruz, CA–comes on the cusp of STS9‘s 20th Anniversary (in 2017). Fans can pre-order THE UNIVERSE INSIDE on iTunes or 1320 Records now and receive instant downloads of “Supercluster,” “Get Loud” and “Give & Take.”
